This Old Man

The 'handicapped pets' onboard sign went up yesterday.

It was time to visit the vet. This time it was Tommy's turn for his check-up.

Tommy howled on top of his voice non-stop going there and on the return trip. He howled a little softer when EJ put the fingers through the cage to stroke or poke him.

He shed fur all over the car.

Traffic was unusually heavy as EJ believed many were doing last minute shopping or travelling to their hometown for this long weekend festival celebration of Aidilfitri – popularly known as Hari Raya Puasa.

During those traffic jams on certain parts of the journey, EJ howled in unison with Tommy. In one of those jams, EJ heard loud mewing though all windows were wound up with the air-conditioning on. On realising that the loud mewing came from a young Indian man driving a huge lorry, EJ laughed and was glad that Tommy at least provided a little entertainment in that patience-testing jam.

Everything was fine with Tommy. When EJ commented that Tommy has bad teeth, his vet replied, 'this old man's teeth is better than many cats!' So Tommy received a new nickname – this old man. EJ estimated Tommy's age to be 12 or 13 as Tommy used to visit EJ when younger.

The only problem with Tommy is he is not good in cleaning his face. Dirt collects on those old facial scars acquired before Tommy adopted EJ. His vet advised EJ help him clean. Though Tommy was good with the vaccination shot, deworm and check-up, he fought when his temperature was taken.

The vet then treated the bleeding wound of the next patient, EJ, with antiseptic and band-aid. No charge for the human. One advantage of being a vegetarian is wounds heal fast!

We are glad Tommy is doing well, but sorry EJ was wounded during the vet visit; Halle (the smallest kitty!) is tough to handle and usually scratches Mom at vet visits too...Hope you all have a happy week, sweet friends...xoxo...Calle, Halle, Sukki

Tommy should check out some karaoke disks, I think he'd love it. Glad he's OK but sorry you got the souvenir bite!

1Malaysia, indeed, when Tommy sings Tamil karaoke with a lorry driver! :-)

OMG what a trip with a howling cat, Tommy looks like Arthur in the cage, because I have nearly the same one. What I do is keep him in the cage on the way to the vet but let him out on the way home. Then he sits behind and looks out of the window.
Good to hear that Tommy is in good health ! Little scratches are part of cat owners life, lol !

The howling/meowing was funny!

We're very glad Tommy is in good health! And that the vet didn't charge for first aid services for EJ. LOL!

Poor Tommy, he must hate it to be locked in the cage.
But we are glad to read that he is doing great!
Hope that scratch hurts no longer!
Happy Tuesday!

When the vet wants to take a kitty's temperature a pair of gauntlets should be handed for the accompanying human to put on before the thermometer is shoved where the sun don't shine! After Tommy's ordeal we think he was a real trooper to entertain a lorry driver too.

Glad Tommy was OK at the vet. We do a lot of howling too going to the vet, but usually coming home we are quiet. Sorry EJ got hurt but at least it was near a kind of doctor. Hope all of you have a terrific Tuesday.

Oh Tommy I'm glad the vet visit is over! I know it makes for a rough day for you. Most all our kitties do well at the vet except Katy, she has the dreaded note on her chart "bad kitty" lol. Happy COT!

Wow!! What an adventure Tommy had!! We're glad he made it through the v-e-t visit relatively well - & hey, we don't blame him A BIT for struggling when his temperature was taken - NO KITTY LIKES THAT!!

We hope Tommy didn't hurt EJ too terribly bad!!

Have a great day!!

Oh, yes, we know all too well about the howling the car. I'm so glad Tommy is healthy even if he is an old man. Lucy doesn't want to hear that, though, since she's 14. Poor guy about the facial scars. Sorry, EJ, that you got scratched! The good news is that the vet trip is over!

Poor Tommy. Luna cries all the way to the vet, too. It's especially stressful for both of us in heavy traffic.

Glad the trip is over and that Tommy is fine (except for those old facial scars).

My daughter and I enjoyed visiting your kitties and finding out what they have been up to. We especially love their names!

None of the cats like being in a cage. It was funny knowing that an Indian lorry driver imitated Tommy. Some catty humour :)

Thanks so much for writing me and letting me know that your cats remain inside. I upset one sweet lady who says that cats should be allowed to roam and in a perfect world that would be right. But I've lost animals on the road in front of my hosue before and I don't know what I would do if I lost these two before their time to go.

Glad Tommy is ok and hope he'll live a long happy life. I can understand how he hates having his temperature taken. Our cat, Karupin is the same. Like EJ, I too have battle scars.

Driving in the car with cats is an unpleasant task at our house/car!

Oh my..my grey cat is just the same age I figure. Lol)) He howels more now! At night he'll cruise around and make lots of noise!! He's mellowed out a bit of course. They don't like those trips but it appears he had some competition from the man with the lorry- which distracted him a little? How funny!

Good for Tommy - bad luck EJ! I laughed at the young driver joining in the cats' chorus!
