Pebble, a Senior Cat?

Pebble was losing weight.

EJ carried Pebble up and saw that the area surrounding her lips had brown stains. While trying to look at that mess, EJ got a whiff of Pebble's breath. It smelt bad. This meant something was not right. EJ contacted the vet to make an appointment for the next day.

It turned out that Pebble's gums have receded and got infected. Receding gums occur in older cats. Not knowing Pebble's age as she was rescued from the street (which can be read here), EJ always thought Pebble was younger than the rest.

Pebble was given an injection and two types of antibiotic pills to take for nine days. Two weeks ago, an evaluation on her condition was done. Her health has improved and had gain a bit of weight as she could eat again. Since she has not fully recovered, another injection was given. In two days, she will be going for another follow-up evaluation.

Lots of purrs and healing Light to Pebbles!

My two boys, both young, have had awful dental problems with multiple extractions, and Nicki had two very deep pockets of infection and needed a month of antibiotics. Annie had 3 extractions in the winter and came through just fine, at 9 - 10 years old.

Hopefully Pebbles will be fine; I know senior kitties are at high risk under anaesthetic and often a vet won't put the animal under for dental. So paws crossed this does the trick for her!

Pebbles is getting older as well as with Muning, gums becomes very sensitive unlike when they're younger. Hope Pebbles would feel better soon, but Pebbles looks so fine in that photo.

We all hate to floss, that's for sure. Luckily my kitties are still young and have good breath. For a cat anyway.

That's right, I had the same with Lisa, she couldn't eat because of gum infection and got antibiotics, then our vet pulled out all her teeth. After that she was OK and it's amazing but cats can eat even dry food without teeth ! the gums become very hard ! Poor thing must have suffered.

Poor Pebble, I'm sorry to hear of her trouble, but I'm glad to hear she's improving. Animals don't complain, do they? Unlike us humans...

Poor Pebble! I hope she gets the all clear from the vet.

Sorry you had trouble accessing the blog. I know the connection goes down sometimes but there's nothing I can do about it. Keep me in mind when you can???

I think pebble is looking very serious or very angry because of some reason. But then also pebble is looking so cute in this pose also.
